Welling produced a rousing second-half display to finally record their first Vanarama Conference win of the season on Tuesday night.

The Wings came from behind to beat Braintree with second-half goals from Chris Bush and Harry Beautyman - although they remain in the relegation zone as sides above them also picked up points.

Welling gave a second debut to forward Tobi Sho-Silva, who joined on loan from Charlton earlier in the day, while Bournemouth loanee Aristade Baselle was named on the bench. Youngster Sam Corne came into the side with boss Jamie Day dropping out of the 16.

Both sides started brightly although an injury to Remy Clerima meant Braintree quickly matched up to Welling's 4-3-3 formation when they were forced into an early substitution.

Braintree went ahead on 15 minutes when an uncharacteristic mistake by Loui Fazakerley let in Simeon Akinola and he set-up Jordan Cox to lob keeper Jamie Turner from the edge of the area.

It could have been 2-0 minutes later when Fazakerley gave possession away cheaply but Akinola's low effort was comfortably saved by Turner.

Welling enjoyed their best spell just before half-time, and nearly levelled in stoppage time as Jake Gallagher shot straight at keeper Nick Hamann from close range, before the latter saw Corne's cross fall just the wrong side of the upright.

After the break, Welling were always in control from the moment Bush fired them level on 48 minutes.

Mitch Brundle had already been booked for hacking down Tyrone Marsh but Welling made sure the visitors paid the price from the resulting free-kick. Beautyman teed up Bush, whose low left-foot shot found the bottom corner with pace and accuracy in equal measure.

Corne then fed Beautyman as Welling started to pick up the pace but his near-post shot was turned behind for a corner before Sho-Silva's effort was also deflected wide by a last-ditch block.

Turner kept the scores level at the other end after James Mulley was allowed to run half the length of the pitch unchallenged before Welling got their tails up again.

The introduction of Baselle added more pace out wide and Jamal Fyfield came on for Corne, with devastating effect.

Just four minutes after coming on, Fyfield won the ball in midfield and slid a perfect pass through to Beautyman who found the back of the net for his third goal in four home games this season.

Welling's luck has been against them this season but they found some in the 90th minute when Steve Smith's 30-yard drive came back off the crossbar, eventually bouncing for the first time outside the penalty area such was the pace of the original shot.
