"I had a good opinion of Blair and he's kept up to it.

"I know he's played higher and he has the potential to go back there.

"If we manage him right he will go back there."

Maidstone are looking for a third straight win when they host struggling Chesterfield at the Gallagher on Saturday.

The Spireites won their first three games following relegation but are only out of the bottom four on goal difference after a dreadful run.

Wheeler once worked alongside the their under-pressure boss, Martin Allen.

He said: "He used to run a pro football scheme for lads who had missed out and I went and worked on it.

"He's a good motivator, a good man and he might be able to get them up for it.

"I take things from everyone, positives from every single person and I'll continue to do that. You can learn off everyone you play against."
