Striker Billy Bricknell knows exactly what to expect when Maidstone face a Lewes side managed by his old Ebbsfleet boss Steve Brown this weekend.

Former Charlton defender Brown is a week into his new role at the Ryman League Premier Division strugglers.

He signed Bricknell when he took charge at Ebbsfleet, having worked with the striker while assistant at Dover. And while Bricknell feels he should still be in charge at Stonebridge Road, now they’re on opposite sides he’ll be looking to put one over his friend.

He said: “It’s not my place to say but I’m sure most people were wondering why he got sacked for being third in the league. It was a shock, I’m not going to lie.

“He was a defender in his playing days so he’s quite defensive in the way he sets his sides up, although he does like to get the ball down.

“I’ll have a beer with him after the game but I want to do my best for Maidstone."

Bricknell scored his second United goal in the 1-1 draw at Harrow last weekend and is glad he picked the Gallagher Stadium after his Ebbsfleet contract was cancelled.

He said: “I’ve been here about six weeks now and have settled in well. The fans have been great to me and made me welcome and hopefully we can kick on."
