Christie Pattisson is ready to rise to the challenge of nailing down a place in Maidstone’s starting XI.
Pattisson marked his return to the side with a sparkling display on the right wing against Maidenhead.
He capped an excellent day’s work by scoring the clinching third goal in a 3-2 victory as the Stones moved four points clear of the National League relegation zone.
Pattisson has everything you want in a wideman - pace, skill and the ability to beat a man and deliver crosses.
Consistency has been the issue for Stones boss Hakan Hayrettin but the talent is there.
“I’m happy to be back in the team and my main goal is to stay in the team,” said Pattisson, who hopes to retain his place when Maidstone visit Woking on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off.
“I’ll try and do as much as possible to show the team and the fans that I’m good enough to stay in there.
“The squad is strong and people are coming back from injury but I think I’ve done enough to try and keep my place for next week.
“It’s always up to the gaffer to make a decision.
“Sometimes it’s tactical but whatever happens, I think everyone will be ready to play at Woking and we’ll try and get another three points.”
Pattisson admits he struggles with confidence at times but keep playing as he did against Maidenhead and he’ll be able to overcome that.
He knows everyone at the club has his back - team-mates and management.
“The gaffer spoke to me before the Maidenhead game and said he had a lot of belief in me,” said Pattisson.
“I think it was only right I went out there and showed everyone that I am good enough.
“I wanted to prove to everyone that I can showcase my talent and do what’s needed to stay in the team.
“I do struggle with a bit of confidence here and there but I don’t think it’s anything to do with the level, it’s just within me.
“But I go out on the pitch and I know as long as everyone gets behind me, then I’m ready to play against anyone.
“The confidence thing has just been through my career.
“I know everyone’s got belief in me, it’s just about me trying to show everyone that I am the player they think I am.
“It’s all there, it’s just about consistency and getting my head right.
“We train nearly every day so the boys know what I can do and when it comes to matchday they expect me to do what I’ve been doing in training.
“That’s beat my man, get on the ball as much as possible, get goals and put balls in the box.”
Pattisson feels Maidstone are going in the right direction after a run of one defeat in six games.
They’ve won two of their past three, drawing the other, to climb out of the bottom four.
“We deserved to beat Maidenhead and we go into Woking with a lot of positivity and confidence,” said Pattisson.
“We’ve had momentum, I think, since the Eastleigh game.
“I know we lost that but until we went down to 10 men we were excellent.
“We managed to get an important win at Scunthorpe after that and we’ve been keeping some clean sheets.
“Maidenhead was a difficult game but I think the boys were top-drawer and we came out of it with three points. Hopefully, we can keep it going.”
