Callum Davies and Manny Parry are ready to fill the void left by injured Maidstone defender Jamie Coyle.
Player-coach Coyle has played a starring role in National League South’s meanest defence but is out for at least a month with a knee injury.
Parry and Davies will team up when United host bottom side Basingstoke at the Gallagher on Saturday and at Oxford City on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
Coyle’s experience and leadership will be missed but former Gillingham centre-half Davies says it is down to him and Parry to keep United’s back four ticking over.
Davies said: “Coyley’s been legendary since I’ve been here.
“I’ve played with some great players, John Egan and Adam Barrett, who have been instrumental to my career but Coyley’s been brilliant.
“He talks to you, he’s technically good and has helped me a lot. But Manny’s a good player and I’ve every faith in him to come in and play as he was before I joined the club.
“Hopefully, Coyley will be back soon but, fingers crossed, we can kick on without him.
“When we get out there, it’s down to us to do our jobs. The big thing we need to do is talk more, both of us. I don’t think that’s about inexperience, just our personalities but we need that commanding presence at the back.”
