Harry Wheeler says the door is open for Jack Doyle to return to Maidstone.
The left-back had to cut short a three-month loan spell from Blackburn after suffering ankle ligament damage in training.
He's back with with Rovers for treatment but could return to the Gallagher Stadium this season.
Maidstone boss Wheeler said: "It's a shame. He's done really well. I thought his best game was his last game, at Ebbsfleet.
"I thought he was brilliant there and we've said said to him the door's always open, come back when you're fit.
"But he's at least six to eight weeks away and his loan would have ended by then.
"He's better to get treatment up there where lives, stay with his family, and we'll address it in time.
"It's not a break but sometimes they're just as bad, when it's ligaments and stuff like that."
Meanwhile, Wheeler has described new midfielder Aryan Tajbakhsh as a "horrible player".
It's meant very much as a compliment after Tajbakhsh made his debut as a second-half substitute in the FA Cup win over Macclesfield.
His signing was announced as a short-term deal but Wheeler wants him to stick around.
He said: "He just knows the level, he knows non-league, knows how to play the game, knows when to turn it and gets his body in.
"He's an aggressive, horrible player that everybody wants in their side and no one wants against you.
"He gives us another bit of steel in there.
"I've known Aryan a long time, we've got a good relationship.
"I would say he'll be here for the long term."
