Jack Evans believes he’s joined the perfect club to push on with his career.
The midfielder became Maidstone’s fifth summer signing when he agreed a one-year deal with the National League new boys after leaving Eastbourne Borough.
The former Gillingham youngster initiated the move when he contacted Maidstone boss Jay Saunders, who invited him along to training.
He played in both matches for Eastbourne against Stones in National South last season and could see the potential at the Gallagher.
Evans, 23, said: “I wanted a new challenge. I could have stayed at Eastbourne but as soon as I knew there was a chance to train with Maidstone, there was no looking back.
“It’s a club that’s going in the right direction. It’s got everything going for it.
“I knew a lot of the lads so I wasn’t nervous going in to train and they’ve been unbelievable.
“I knew Nicky Southall (Stones assistant) more than I knew Jay but Jay was happy to let me go in and when he said about signing, I was so happy, I couldn’t wait to get it done."
Evans came through the youth ranks at Gills, breaking into the first team under Andy Hessenthaler and Southall and playing several matches in League 2.
But when Martin Allen took over, his time was up and he joined Tamworth before moving back south with Sutton and then Eastbourne.
