Charles Banya is proving it’s about who you know in football.
The former Fulham youngster got his foot in the door at Maidstone with help from right-back Callum Driver, who recommended him to boss Jay Saunders.
After a handful of substitute appearances, Banya has had a big impact in three starts on the left wing.
Saunders said: “I’m not a big lover of trialists in mid-season but you look at his background, see he’s been on the bench in the Premiership and you think ‘OK, let’s have a look’.
“He’s been great since he came in. I said to be patient, he never moaned, and since he’s started he’s looked sharp.
“What pleased me at Bath last Saturday was to see him back defending, winning headers at the far post.
“He worked hard coming back - not all wingers want to do that - and he’s got such quick feet going forward.
“His pace worries defenders and when he gets one-on-one not a lot of people will stop him.
“He feels his best position is behind the striker but I feel he offers us a lot out wide.”
