Alex Finney was kicking stuff in the dressing room after taking the blame for Maidstone's defeat by Tranmere on Saturday.
Devastated Finney scored an own goal then gave away a penalty as Rovers came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 in the last five minutes.
It had all started so well for the Stones defender when he gave Jay Saunders' side the lead at the Gallagher on Saturday.
The on-loan QPR centre-half had an excellent game but football can be cruel and you had to feel for him as he headed straight for the dressing room at full-time.
Finney said: "I was kicking stuff. I hate losing, especially in that type of manner.
"I feel gutted for everyone, the fans that come and watch, the people upstairs, the people in the changing room and the manager because he's just got a load of belief in the boys and I've done that, which kind of overshadowed everything that's gone on today with the good 85 minutes or so."
Team-mates tried to reassure Finney but he added: "My expectations are high of myself and I think they knew from my reaction coming into the changing room what I expect of myself.
"It's really disappointing for me because I felt coming off the back of the Boreham Wood game we had a good structure and a good base in the three at the back and probably single-handedly I've ruined the performance for the boys."
Finney, though, is determined to learn from the experience.
He said: "I think you're always told to take positives from every game.
"I know sometimes it's a bit hard to do, after what I did today, but there's things to take from it, like I've got to stay on my feet, don't give the ref a decision to make.
"Maybe my position for the own goal could have been a bit better, maybe I could have been more goalside of him instead of behind him.
"But there's also a lot positives from a team point of view.
"We looked solid, they didn't really have many opportunities during the game, so I think there's a lot we can take in terms of positives from the game."
