Maidstone United winger Alex Flisher signs new contract at the Gallagher Stadium - with fitness clause

Alex Flisher has signed a new two-year contract at Maidstone United - and is confident he will meet a fitness clause.

Winger Flisher, who returned from a long-term knee injury in September, will have to play 25 games next season to trigger the second year of the deal.

The crowd favourite, 24, is delighted to be staying with his hometown club and is ready to prove his fitness.

He said: "It's good to get it all sorted. It took a bit of time with negotiations and stuff.

"There were a few bits and pieces to talk about to do with my injury.

"It's a two-year deal but I've got to play a certain amount of games for the second year.

"That's something I need to do and it's understandable with the amount of time I was out and then the little niggle I had afterwards.

"Hopefully when I get a pre-season under my belt I should easily get to 25 games.

"The club have looked after me and I've always given 100% in every game I've played, so it's worked out well."

Stones boss Jay Saunders said: "Some deals take longer than others and with Flish's injury it has dragged on a little bit but I'm pleased to get it done.

"He's been here a long time and is an important player for us.

"He needs a good pre-season but he's looking better than he has done since he's been back and even when he's not 100% he still causes teams problems.

"Hopefully he'll get stronger and stronger. I believe he can get back to where he was."
