Former QPR defender Gary Borrowdale is training with Tonbridge.
The 28-year-old was set to feature in a pre-season friendly against Maidstone on Thursday night.
And he’s likely to play again when Angels host Dartford on Saturday.
Borrowdale played a match on trial at Dartford this month but wasn’t invited back. Angels boss Tommy Warrilow said: “It’s no secret I’ve been looking for a centre-half all summer.
“Tony Burman (Darts manager) beat me to Gary by about half an hour. But it’s perhaps more physical in Conference Premier and with Gary not being 100% fit yet, Tony said he might be right for us.
“He comes with a brilliant pedigree and wants to start playing football again.
“He broke into the Crystal Palace team at 17 and is only 28 now so he should be in his prime. He fell out of love with the game around the time Paolo Sousa went in as manager at QPR.
“I’m not putting any pressure on him. I just want to get him back playing with a smile on his face. I’m delighted he’s been training with us and hope it works out.”
