Jake Gallagher has finally signed for Maidstone - months after the wheels were set in motion.
The former Welling and Aldershot midfielder was close to joining United last season after finding himself out of favour at Dorking Wanderers.
But Covid put paid to that, with the National South campaign suspended and later declared null and void.
Stones boss Hakan Hayrettin stayed in touch with Gallagher and the 28-year-old has completed his move.
“I was talking to Hakan and trying to get myself out of Dorking so I could play some football,” the former Millwall youngster told Stones TV.
“I came down and did a week’s training with them, it went really well, I was hoping we could get something sorted.
“But there was still umming and aahing over whether the season was going to carry on or not, and it got delayed and probably rightly so because it ended up going void anyway.
“We stayed in touch since and managed to sort something out.
“It’s so nice to have that interest straight away after knowing you’re probably going to move on from your club.
“Not knowing what’s going on is the scary part but having something there straight away is great.”
