New Maidstone signing Jack Harris should have no worries handling 2,000-plus crowds at the Gallagher Stadium.

Not when he played in front of 17,000 fans at Wembley just six months ago as Tunbridge Wells finished runners-up in the FA Vase final.

Harris, 19, signed for United on Monday night after scoring 51 goals in 112 games for Wells.

He decided the time was right to step up from Southern Counties East and is looking forward to the challenge of Ryman League Premier Division football under Stones boss Jay Saunders.

The striker is confident Wells’ FA Vase run, during which he scored a quarter-final winner with the last kick of extra-time, will help him make the transition.

He said: “The Vase made me a better player and also mentally stronger because we were down in certain games and fought back.

“I remember there were about 2,500 people there for the home leg of the semi-final and then 17,000 at Wembley. It’s a bit nerve-racking at first, but once you relax into the game you just concentrate on your football.

“It depends on the make-up of the player whether you’re affected, but I think all players want to play in front of big crowds, really. I didn’t start the final at Wembley, but I came on and it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
