Platts Heath’s Jake Hill leads British Touring Car Championship by nine points with two rounds remaining after double podium for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport at Donington Park

Platts Heath’s Jake Hill is back in control of the British Touring Car Championship after a double podium at Donington Park.

The Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport driver was third in races one and two before a fifth-placed finish in race three. Those results give Hill a nine-point advantage with just two rounds remaining.

“We have a nine-point lead, which is fantastic, and we’ve just had a nice day with two thirds and a fifth, which is great considering we started seventh in race one,” Hill said.

“Overall, it’s just been a good day and we’ve scored lots of points, with huge thanks to the West Surrey Racing team and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport.”

Starting race one from row four, Hill passed three cars in one move on lap four to move up to fourth and made the podium with five laps to go, getting the better of pole position man Josh Cook after the LQK Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ driver made a mistake at the Fogarty Esses.

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington took the win.

Hill made it back-to-back thirds in race two. Starting from third, he slipped to fourth but overtook slow-running title rival Tom Ingram, who was later forced to retire. Last season’s champion, Ash Sutton, was first to the flag for NAPA Racing UK.

With the top 11 reversed for the race three start, Hill managed his way forward to finish less than half a second behind fourth-placed Cook. NAPA Racing’s Dan Cammish took the victory.

The championship continues at Silverstone on September 21-22, with the season finale two weeks later at Brands Hatch.
