Maidstone defender Shane Huke is contemplating retirement – aged just 29.
Huke feels it may be time to finish a career that’s seen him play in the Football League with Peterborough and Dagenham and Champions League football in Australia.
He’ll make a decision at the end of the season, by which time he hopes to be a Ryman League, Premier Division title winner with United.
It would be the first honour of his career and possibly the perfect time to bow out.
He said: “I’ll see how it goes, whether to hang up my boots or continue for another season. I’ve re-evaluated over the last two or three years and carried on.
“But I’ve got a family and I’ve started my own business and it’s hard to fit football in.
“I’m 29 but I feel 39. I’ve loved it here and I’d miss turning up at 1pm on a Saturday with all the lads having a laugh getting ready for the game and then getting out there.
“But I’ve done it for 15 years and I’ve got to think about life after football.
“This could be the year to stop. I’m not used to winning things so to win the league would be brilliant not just for me but everyone involved.”
