Injury concerns for Stones ahead of derby clash

MAIDSTONE United’s injury problems continue to mount up ahead of Saturday's derby with Folkestone Invicta.

Defender Mario McNish is a major doubt after picking up a knee injury which kept him out of Wednesday's 5-3 FA Trophy win over Abingdon United.

McNish's absence forced the Stones' management duo Lloyd Hume and Alan Walker to field Ben Lewis, himself recovering from a knee problem.

Lewis further aggravated his injury and is struggling for the weekend. Lee Shearer (suspended) and Errison Ahwan (hamstring) are out, although Craig Roser has returned from his honeymoon.

"Ben will be a major loss," said Hume. "We didn’t really want to risk him on Wednesday, but had to because of Mario’s injury. His knee is now very swollen.

"But we are looking forward to the game. It is a Kent derby, so will be good to catch up with some old faces.

"Folkestone are similar to us in that they have a few experienced players and some good youngsters, and it’s a big test."
