Carshalton 2 Maidstone 1
A GOAL two minutes into injury time from Billy Wright condemned Maidstone United to a 2-1 defeat at Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.
The Stones were battered for much of this Ryman League Premier Division fixture, but after keeping out 19 separate goal attempts they finally succumbed when Wright steered in his shot at the third attempt.
Carshalton went in front in the 16th-minute when Phil Ruddles headed in at the far post, but their lead lasted just two minutes as James Peacock headed in Danny Walder’s corner for his first goal for the club.
United always looked capable of nicking a goal, but a collectively shambolic display put them on the back foot for most of the second half.
Just when it looked like they might hold out for a point, Wright intervened.
Even then Mo Takaloo had time to steer in Stefan Gaisie’s knock-down at the other end, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
