Tristan Lewis has challenged Maidstone to show their win at Boreham Wood was no one-off.
The Stones start the new year at home to Dover today looking to build on their 1-0 success at the weekend.
Victory ended a run of five defeats and saw them close to within three points of safety.
Whites won the Boxing Day meeting 3-1 - Harry Wheeler’s last game in charge - but United were a different side under caretaker bosses Lewis and Simon Walton against Boreham Wood.
Now they have to do it all again in the search for a first home win since beating Barrow in August.
Lewis said: “There’s a phrase when you’re losing a game - you choose how to lose it.
“Do you go with a fight or do you roll over?
“The players have now got a choice how they win.
“Is it a one-off and do we play Dover now and think suddenly we’ve arrived, or do we graft and work and put the passion and the pride in again?
“Listen, we’re going to lose games, every team loses games, but we’ve played a good Boreham Wood team and we’ve committed to them physically and matched them physically and I think we deserved to win after the week we’ve had.
“Dover are another good side. I can’t stress enough we’re just concentrating on ourselves, that’s all we can do because of where we’ve been and where we want to go.
“We know what they’re going to bring but I certainly think there’ll be a different atmosphere than there was on Boxing Day.
“It’s how the boys want to take it forward. That’s their choice.”
Dan Wishart starts a three-game ban following his red card at Boreham Wood while striker Jake Cassidy plays his final match on loan before returning to Hartlepool.
