Harry Wheeler has challenged Maidstone to build on their clean sheet at Braintree.
Saturday’s 1-0 success lifted United out of the National League relegation zone.
It was just their second shut-out of the season and is something the new boss has made a point of working on.
Maidstone go to Aldershot tonight knowing victory would move them above their hosts on goal difference.
Wheeler said: “Clean sheets win leagues. You can play badly when you’re always good at keeping clean sheets and you win 1-0. It’s a massive thing.
“You can’t rely on scoring two, three, four goals every week.
“We’ve been working on it all week, drilling it in, we’ll do it again and hopefully it pays off consistently.
“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves.
“That’s one clean sheet. We’ll just try and see how consistent we can be with it.”
Aldershot have picked up after a slow start and beat bottom side Dover 2-0 at the weekend.
Wheeler expects a difficult game but his players’ confidence is up after a first win in seven games.
He said: “You look at them in there and they’re desperate to win games. It means so much to them.
“Aldershot is a tough game, a good side, a great club. They’ll be up for it.
“They’ve had a couple of results recently and they’ve dipped in and out.
“Whatever side’s more consistent with their quality will win that game.”
