Jamar Loza is determined to earn a new deal at Maidstone after returning for pre-season training.
Loza has been told there's a contract waiting for him if he proves himself over the next month.
The former Norwich forward missed the start of last season following ankle surgery.
He returned ahead of schedule but was unable to recapture the form he showed the season before.
He's feeling sharp now, though, and will give everything to secure his place in the squad after rejecting offers elsewhere.
Loza said: "I’ve been working really hard.
"I know how hard pre-season can be so I’ve been keeping in shape, doing a lot of running and I am ready to kick on this season. Hopefully it’ll be the best season ever.”
Stones boss Jay Saunders said: "If you’ve got a fully fit Jamar Loza, you’ve got a match winner on your hands.
"He'll have a month’s worth of training with us and playing games and if he comes through that and looks back to his old self then there’s deal in place for him.
“He had a couple of other offers on the table but felt attached to the club and wanted to stay.
"It was his first training session today and he looked very sharp and all the signs were positive.”
