Maidstone Rugby Club crashed out of the Kent Cup at the quarter-final stage on Saturday, losing 26-7 to Old Colfeians at The Mote.
The home side, forced into four changes due to injury and without Steve Matthews, failed to exert much pressure in the first quarter of the game.
Colfeians looked the sharper side, particularly in the forwards, and took the lead with a converted try after Maidstone failed to clear their lines.
Colfeians soon extended their lead with another converted try and moved 19-0 ahead before half-time with another try.
After withstanding 15 minutes of relentless pressure at the start of the second half, Maidstone began to find their own attacking game and one flowing move took the ball deep into Colfeians territory with Ferris, King and Rogers to the fore. But the effort could not be sustained and it was Colfeians who scored next when they finished a sharp move from a scrum to touch down under the posts.
A try with 10 minutes to go, after a catch and drive from a line-out, eventually got Maidstone on the scoreboard and Searles added the conversion. But it was too little, too late, and despite a frantic last 10 minutes, Maidstone were unable to add further points.
