Maidstone United have taken on a couple of loan players from AFC Wimbledon but they may have to wait to play.
The Stones are putting together a squad to play for free after their contracted players were put on furlough. Teenage defenders Archie Procter and Jack Currie have both signed on for the remainder of the season.
Wimbledon are keen for those players to gain matchday experience but the Stones look set to be without a game until the end of the month.
Tuesday night’s fixture at Dulwich Hamlet - already rearranged once because of floodlight issues - was off because their opponents are unwilling to play without funding and their next two fixtures are likely to be postponed for the same reason. On Saturday they are supposed to be hosting Dulwich and then welcoming Chippenham Town to the Gallagher three days later. Chippenham are also not currently playing while the funding crisis rumbles on.
Unless there is a change to the current situation - clubs are still awaiting the outcome of a vote on whether to null and void the season - then Stones’ next game could be on Saturday, February 27, against Billericay Town, a team who have decided to play the kids rather than risk sanctions for non fulfilment of fixtures.
Clubs have until the end of this month to vote on the future of the 2020/21 season.
Procter and Currie have joined a rapidly assembled squad that are training in preparation for a match, whenever that comes.
Doncaster Rovers have said they are happy for defender Charlie Seaman to remain on loan with the Stones.
While most of Maidstone’s first team are on furlough some have agreed to play for free. Dominic Odusanya, Zihni Temelci, Jaydn Mundle-Smith and Jake Embery are understood to be among those ready to play. Under-23 players including Max Sutton and Jack Mayhew are also training.
