Charles Banya may not remember much about it but Maidstone were 3-1 winners over Basingstoke on Saturday.
Banya looked out for the count after being taken out by keeper Aaron Howe for the penalty leading to United’s clinching goal.
He eventually got to his feet before being stretchered off, with Vas Karagiannis scoring from the spot as third-placed United strengthened their National League South play-off bid.
Banya was later taken to hospital suffering suspected concussion.
James Rogers had given Maidstone an early lead, with a goal on his home debut for Dumebi Dumaka restoring the advantage after Jay Gasson levelled.
Rogers put Maidstone in front after only four minutes, a lovely low strike after a poor clearance from a Banya cross dropped to him on the edge of the box.
If Basingstoke had planned to sit back and be hard to break down, the plan went out of the window following the early goal. Instead, they had to try and trade with United.
Shots came mainly from distance, Karagiannis, Callum Driver, Dumaka and Tom Mills, with the pick of the strikes, all trying their luck for the hosts.
Dumaka also saw a shot run out of legs after easing the ball past Howe, while Joe Healy sent a near-post diving header over.
Having seen Liam Enver-Marum miss a decent chance, Basingstoke were level on 25 minutes.
A mistake by Driver, trying to turn Manny Williams, eventually resulted in a corner, with James Harper’s ball in headed home by the unmarked Jay Gasson.
After a quiet spell the game sprung into life at the end of the half.
At one end, Williams somehow fired over at the near post from Reece Connolly’s cross as Basingstoke missed a golden chance to go in front.
Seconds later Stones were denied a penalty when Tom Mills was taken out by a clumsy challenge from right-back Nathan Smart.
Maidstone were back in front two minutes into the second half.
Jack Paxman played in Dumaka and the Stones striker slid the ball past Howe to mark his home debut with a goal.
A superb save from Howe denied Dumaka a second after he took the ball down and hit a half-volley from 20 yards, then Karagiannis slapped a first-time effort wide.
Maidstone added their third from the penalty spot on 63 minutes. Banya was taken out as he lifted the ball over Howe. The little winger was eventually stretchered off, with Karagiannis firing his spot-kick low and hard to the keeper’s right.
Lee Worgan was equal to Louie Soares’ strike after a cleverly worked free-kick on the edge of the Maidstone area as Town threatened a second.
