Chris Matthews is happy to play the waiting game in front of his home crowd.
Super-featherweight Matthews (3-0-0) never imagined he would get the chance to fight in Maidstone when he turned professional last summer.
And now it's happening, the 21-year-old is determined there will be no mistakes against Harvey Hemsley (3-24-1) when the pair meet over four rounds at Maidstone Leisure Centre on Saturday night.
All three of Matthews' wins have come on points but he won't go chasing a knockout.
He said: "I'm excited to be fighting in my home town. It wasn't something I thought would happen.
"It's closer for my friends and family and I'll know everyone there, so I'll be more relaxed.
"I know the bloke I'm fighting has won a few fights but that's about it.
"I've been working on my strength and conditioning at Bob Prowse's gym in Tovil and with Johnny Armour at his gym in Chatham.
"Johnny has improved me as a fighter and I do feel stronger but I'm not going to go in there looking for a knockout - I will wait for it to come to me.
"I'm just going to box and if the knockout comes, it comes."
Tickets to the seven-fight bill are available on the night, priced £35. Doors open at 6pm.
