Jay May looks set to finish as Maidstone’s leading scorer for the second season running.
May’s double at Truro took him to 13 goals, four clear of Vas Karagiannis and five ahead of Joe Healy.
It’s a good return in a new league where he’s played largely as a lone frontman before teaming up with Dumebi Dumaka last weekend.
He’s fit and firing at a key time of the season, having suffered illness and injury earlier in the year.
May unexpectedly outscored Frannie Collin last season, passing 25 goals as Maidstone won the Ryman League and he’s been their main man again in National South.
May said: “I’ve missed quite a spell so I’m pleased with 13 goals. I’ve never been someone who’s going to go out and score 30 goals every year.
“That isn’t what I do but I always aim for around 15 and I’m close to that now. It would be nice to finish top scorer again.
“It’s been tougher this season. People have teams watched a lot more and know your strengths and weaknesses but we’ve done well. The boys are more than pleased with third place.”
