Aryan Tajbakhsh said it was men against boys as Maidstone slumped against Maidenhead.
Tajbakhsh was a frustrated substitute as United trailed their fellow strugglers 3-1 at the break.
The midfielder was part of a triple change for the second half and did his best to drag Maidstone back into the match, although they lost 4-2.
Tajbakhsh said: "I think we got out-fought in the first half. It looked like men against boys, in all honesty.
"We didn’t roll our sleeves up and do the right things at the right times.
"Both sides were poor and there were lapses in concentration for all the goals.
"I was gutted to be left out but the decision was made.
"All I could do was make sure I made an impact when I came on but I wouldn’t have had that in the first half.
"It was very lazy and that’s exactly why we’re losing more games than we’re winning and that will be the difference come the end of the season.
"With the predicament we find ourselves in we have less opportunities to make mistakes but, as the old saying goes, when it rains it pours.
"You get punished for every mistake you make, so we as a team have to come together and start making less mistakes.
"We have to do the right things at the right times and, as you climb the table, the rain can ease and you can start playing.
"At the moment we need to be ugly and we need to do the right things in the right areas to make sure we can secure our place in this league next season."
Maidstone's home form remains a huge problem with only one league win at the Gallagher all season.
Tajbakhsh and his team-mates are determined to put that right, starting with Dagenham this Saturday.
He said: "You could think of a 100,000 things why we can't win at home.
"Everyone could have a different opinion.
"Regardless of where we are, we need to pull together.
"Every single one of us, from the management to the players, we are desperate to get a win for the fans.
"You can sense it in the dressing room, we all say that, and if it’s frustrating for the fans, it’s even more so for us because we want to make it a fortress, we want to win for the fans.
"I’ve heard the reception before when you win, like in the FA Cup, and it’s amazing, and they still clap and make noise after you lose.
"Every game is winnable and every game is easy to lose in this league.
"We just have to make it difficult for Dagenham to come here, not give them an opportunity to play their game and make sure we take our chances."
