Maidstone meet Boreham Wood in an FA Trophy replay at the Gallagher tonight.
Stones worked hard in a goalless draw in Hertfordshire on Saturday but need more in the final third to get through.
The winners will be at home to Alfreton in the second round.
Manager Jay Saunders said: "We need to show the same sort of desire - I thought our workrate was very good.
"When we did get it in the final third and we kept possession in there I thought we caused them problems but we need to do that a little bit more.
"They’re very dangerous on the break, Boreham Wood, and it’s difficult for your full-backs to over-commit because they leave their widemen high and they break very quickly.
"But if we can keep possession a little bit better, sustain possession in the final third a little bit better and our final ball’s better then I think we’re in a game.
"We had plenty of balls in the box but a lot of them weren’t quite what we needed."
Midfielder Jack Paxman missed the first game with a hip injury and is expected to be out for a fortnight.
