Jack Paxman has signed a new contract at Maidstone - taking him through to the end of next season.
Stones boss Jay Saunders revealed at the end of last month he had held preliminary talks with Paxman over a new deal.
And with the midfielder coaching at the Gallagher in the half-term soccer school this week, they had the chance to get it over the line.
Saunders said: "We've been talking for a couple of weeks.
"He's one of the young lads we want to keep at the club.
"He was keen to stay and we wanted to keep him so it didn't take long to agree.
"It's just been timing really. With the games we've had, we've not had the chance to get it done.
"He's got better and better. He's added the defensive side to his game and become one of the names that start every week.
"It's good for him because it puts his mind at rest and we want to keep our young players at the club.
"He realises we've been good for him. He was on the bench a lot of the time at Witham and he's come here and had two promotions in a short space of time."
Paxman dropped into non-league following his release by Southend and has flourished at the Gallagher since signing from Witham two years ago.
He said: "This is the club I want to be playing for and I'm just happy to get it done.
"The club's helped me out massively, helped me get back on track with my football and hopefully I can help the club as much as I can.
"We want to stay in this league and hopefully I can be a part of the future."
