Yemi Odubade made his point to now former Eastleigh boss Ronnie Moore.
Odubade was released by Moore soon after the ex-Tranmere and Rotherham manager took charge at Silverlake.
The 32-year-old was picked up by Maidstone and showed his qualities in United’s 2-1 win over the Spitfires on Tuesday night.
Moore quit as manager of the Hampshire side on Wednesday due to ‘personal circumstances’.
Odubade kept the Eastleigh defenders busy, was brought down for Maidstone’s winning penalty and could easily have scored himself.
Odubade was restored to the starting line-up and enjoyed the chance to show Moore and his old team-mates what he can do.
He said: “It’s like that anywhere. If you play against your old team and the manager who comes in and lets people go, it’s always going to happen where you want to put on a performance.
“That’s football but you can’t look at the past, you’ve just got to look at the future and my future is at Maidstone United.
“I was at Eastleigh for three-and-a-half years, I made some good friends down there, said hello to a few of them before the game and a few of the fans after but I’m at Maidstone for a reason – to win – whoever it’s against.
“I’m glad we did that, we deserved it and it just goes to show that we can play.
“It’s a bit unfortunate that we haven’t been that consistent over the past four or five games but hopefully that game tonight will put us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
