Ade Olorunda will not celebrate if he scores against former club Maidstone when he returns to the Gallagher Stadium with new club Lewes on Saturday.

It will be his first appearance at the ground since scoring twice in United’s play-off final victory against Faversham in May and he admits he cannot believe he’s no longer there.

He came to terms with Stones’ decision to release brother, Tim, but tax implications led to his own departure.

The striker contemplated retirement before joining Lewes and has struck twice in four games to help the Sussex club make an unbeaten start. But if he scores again at the Gallagher, there will be no celebrations.

He said: “I couldn’t celebrate. It wouldn’t be right. There are too many good people at the club and I have too many good memories to do that.

“I’m looking forward to going back and hope the fans give me a good reception. I’d still like to be at Maidstone. How I’m not is beyond me.

“I wanted to stay but we couldn’t sort things out. I’d had a promotion at work which put me in the 40% tax bracket, so I became too expensive for the club to keep.

“The other option was to take a pay cut to the point where it wasn’t feasible for me to do the travelling on my own without Tim.”
