Jack Parkinson remains a Maidstone player after talks with a National League club broke down.
Parkinson played 90 minutes at centre-half alongside Steve Watt as United beat Welling 2-1 in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.
He’s been given permission to look for full-time football after leaving his job with United’s academy.
Nothing came of a trial appearance at Cambridge while a move to an unnamed National League club appears to have fallen through.
Stones boss Jay Saunders said: “He spoke to someone but nothing was agreed so I think it’s dead in the water.
“We did speak about a player swap deal with the club but that won’t happen. We’ll keep things as they are with Jack.
“We won’t put a time on him leaving because there’s no real need to. He’s said all along he’s not trying to force his way out.
“At the moment, it’s looking like he’s going to be here.”
