Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders on 2-2 draw at Dover Athletic

Maidstone expect to be without Alex Finney for the rest of the Christmas and New Year programme after picking up a nasty head injury at Dover.

Finney was hurt in an early clash and eventually went off after 15 minutes.

His mum took him to hospital in London and the on-loan QPR defender looks set to miss Saturday's trip to Aldershot and the Dover return on New Year's Day.

Boss Jay Saunders said: "Pretty much all his top front teeth are wobbling about in his head and he can hardly talk.

"He's cut all the inside of his mouth as well and he looked a bit dazed to me.

"I think we'll lose him over the Christmas period which is a blow but that's how it goes."

Maidstone were 10 minutes away from seeing their bold approach pay off.

Saunders started with four forwards - Joe Pigott and Jamar Loza up top and Zavon Hines and Aaron Collins out wide in a 4-4-2 formation - and saw his side lead 2-0 at the break.

Both goals came from top scorer Pigott but a relentless Dover side forced a 2-2 draw thanks to Nortei Nortey and an 80th-minute goal from Ryan Bird.

Saunders said: "We went attacking today, we didn't come to nick a draw or to shut up shop, we've come here, we've started with four forwards on the pitch.

"When other teams might come here and be more defensive, we've gone for it and I thought maybe it was going to pay off but it wasn't to be."

There was frustration at losing a two-goal lead but Saunders felt Dover were worth the draw on their second-half performance.

He said: "Before the game I would have been happy with a draw.

"Obviously being 2-0 you'd like to think you could see the game out but we haven't been keeping clean sheets recently, other than the Maidenhead game.

"That's the disappointing side but it was a classic game of two halves.

"First half we were very good and in control and second half they came at us.

"It was really important for the first 15-20 minutes of the second half not to concede and unfortunately we didn't do that.

"That's a turning point in the game and it swung the momentum their way."
