Jay Saunders has warned Maidstone’s season will peter out if they don’t address their home form.

United dropped to 12th in the National League after a 2-0 defeat by Leyton Orient on Saturday.

They’ve won only three times at the Gallagher, compared to six away.

And boss Saunders said: “It’s something we’ve got to put right. If we don’t put it right our season will peter out and I don’t want that.

“Something’s got to change, whether that’s personnel, whether it’s formations, whatever.

“We’ve got to find a way of winning games at home because at the moment it’s the reason we’re mid-table and not higher up.

“I don’t get what it is. I don’t know if it’s become a mental thing now but we’ve got to try and snap out of it.”

Saunders felt the Orient defeat came down to fine margins, with the visitors taking the points with goals from Bondz N’Gala and Macauley Bonne.

He said: “I don’t think there’s a lot in the game apart from obviously the two chances they’ve taken and it’s the story of the day.

“I thought we finished the first half strongly but they got that set-piece for the first goal.

“It was poor from our point of view. I think they win the first header and then are first alive to the second ball.

“Second half I think they got very lucky with their goal.

“Lee Worgan was just telling me it took a big deflection.

“It took a deflection on the cross as it’s come in and then wrongfooted Jai Reason.

“That’s a killer blow because at 1-0 you’re chasing the game, you’re trying to get back into it and the second goal gives them that cushion.”

It was a second win in three league games for Orient under former Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh.

Saunders said: “Justin’s gone in and gone 4-4-2, he’s gone back to basics and they’re doing it well, but you have to take your chances and we haven’t done that today.

“Those two good chances they had, they took.

“We haven’t done enough with the chances we did have.”
