Blair Turgott scored one of the great Gallagher Stadium goals as Maidstone reached the FA Cup first round for the fifth year running.
Turgott ran virtually the length of the pitch for a brilliant solo effort as United broke the deadlock against National League big guns Leyton Orient.
And there was a dream debut for Elliott Romain, who added the second just two minutes after his introduction.
Maidstone got their gameplan spot on, allowing Orient possession, defending properly and knocking them out on the break.
Orient enjoyed more of the ball and were patient in the Maidstone half but they struggled to find a way past the home defence.
There was no easy route through the centre with the impressive Simon Walton and Ollie Muldoon sitting in front of the back four.
And while they got Sam Ling and James Brophy in good crossing positions several times, the Stones were largely untroubled.
The O’s had one reasonable chance inside the opening 15 minutes with Matt Harrold’s diving header wide.
Their best opening arrived eight minutes before the break when Brophy fed Dale Gorman, whose shot was blocked.
The loose ball fell kindly to Ling but Lee Worgan made a decent low save.
For the Stones, Jack Paxman’s ambitious lob from his own half was worth a go but didn’t reach the target.
They had the chance of the first half just before the break when Turgott nipped in behind the defence but the Stones skipper rolled the ball wide of the far post.
Walton’s backpass put Worgan in trouble early in the second half but the Stones keeper did enough to hold off Macauley Bonne outside his area.
Then came Turgott’s big moment as Maidstone took the lead in the 54th minute.
He picked up possession on the edge of his own area and launched a run down the left.
He had everything and more to do at that stage but sped past his man and continued the run before breaking into the box and easing the ball past Brill.
It’s certainly the best individual effort ever seen at the Gallagher and maybe the best goal of any sort in six years here.
Harrold saw a header blocked by Alex Finney, then Bonne’s header from a Gorman free-kick was kept out by Worgan as Orient looked to respond.
Maidstone introduced Romain in the 74th minute and two minutes later he doubled Maidstone’s lead.
He did well to dispossess big defender Marvin Ekpiteta just outside the Os area, then charged through and beat Brill.
Unmarked Orient substitute Josh Koroma missed a chance on the stretch from Bonne’s flick with 10 minutes left.
But Maidstone might have had a third when Romain teed up Olu Durojaiye whose tame effort was easily saved.
