Maidstone suffered a fourth successive National League defeat at Dagenham on Boxing Day.
Former Gillingham and Ebbsfleet winger Myles Weston scored the Daggers' first-half winner.
It was another frustrating afternoon for the Stones, who started well and had more than enough of the game to take something.
They went close to a last-gasp leveller, with Regan Booty's effort blocked on the line by keeper Elliott Justham.
Maidstone made three changes to the side who beat Worthing in the FA Trophy, with Joe Ellul, Reece Greenidge and Regan Booty back from injury, suspension and illness respectively.
Greenidge’s return proved short-lived, hobbling off after 33 minutes and replaced by Sha’mar Lawson.
That saw Kodi Lyons-Foster, who’d started in a new midfield role, dropping back into defence to cover for Greenidge.
Maidstone started well, forcing a couple of early corners and popping the ball about nicely.
Dominic Odusanya headed wide from Roarie Deacon’s free-kick inside two minutes while the Daggers defence were alert to deal with several dangerous crosses.
Dagenham grew into the game, Joel Taylor testing Dan Barden with a decent hit after cutting inside from the left, while Weston was starting to prove a menace on the right.
Thirty-four but with the pace and energy of someone a decade younger, Weston was the one to watch as Dagenham got to grips with the match.
After trying his luck a couple of times, he eventually gave Daryl McMahon’s side a 37th-minute lead.
The defending wasn’t great as Weston made his way down the right and cut inside before bending the ball into the far corner but it was a decent finish.
Deacon had an effort held by Justham as Maidstone looked for a quick response, while Odusanya dragged wide from 20 yards from Booty’s pass, Lawson having launched the move with an excellent break from his own half.
Half-time substitute Hady Ghandour offered something different in attack.
He was involved in a good move before the hour mark, holding the ball up and finding Deacon before Odusanya fed Jerome Binnom-Williams, joining the attack from left-back.
The Stones skipper went on a good run into the box, with a fierce strike well-saved by Justham, who also got behind Osusanya’s header from the resultant corner.
Maidstone were having a go and made their final change by introducing summer signing Sol Wanjau-Smith for his debut.
But it should have been 2-0 with 20 minutes left when Junior Morias squared for Paul McCallum, who could only fire straight at Barden.
Jack Barham, as ever a willing worker up top, found himself in on goal at the other end but the Daggers defence did enough to put him off balance before getting his shot off.
Deacon teed up Booty with the last kick of the match but Justham denied him an equaliser.
