Lee Worgan conceded a freak goal on his 200th consecutive league appearance for Maidstone as Boreham Wood ran riot.
Kane Smith’s cross went over Worgan’s head for the opener and while he made several good saves on his big night, Wood stormed clear.
Dan Holman scored in either half to extend the lead and Blair Turgott made it four from the penalty spot as United suffered their heaviest league defeat at the Gallagher.
Maidstone were missing Alex Wynter, out with an eye injury, while Jai Reason was suspended against his former club.
It was a young Stones bench, including academy players Elliott Capel and Rhys Bartlett, with Jack Richards back from his loan at Welling.
The Stones struggled to get going against a Wood side who were comfortably the better team.
They looked particularly good going forward but when they took the lead it was very much a fluke goal as Smith’s right-wing cross looped over Worgan and went in off the far post in the 13th minute.
Joe Pigott fired over after nice work from Jamar Loza midway through the half before Wood had a goal ruled out when Shaun Jeffers’ fierce strike from 25 yards went in off team-mate Holman, who was offside.
Worgan saved well from Turgott but moments later Boreham Wood had their second, Holman getting in front of Finney and slotting home on 40 minutes.
The visitors extended their lead eight minutes into the second half, Holman latching on to Jeffers’ pass and firing low into the corner.
Jeffers should have added number four after beating Magnus Okuonghae but the Stones defender recovered to make the block, with Ricky Shakes’ follow-up saved.
Turgott then bent an effort just wide after being given space to get his shot off.
Zavon Hines’ 25-yard half-volley was pushed away for a corner by Grant Smith in a rare bright moment for Maidstone.
Worgan then saved well as Turgott looked to bend a shot into the far corner and had to deal with an awkward Dave Stephens header from the corner.
Boreham Wood had their fourth in the 77th minute, Turgott going down easily over Seth Twumasi and sending Worgan the wrong way from the spot.
