Maidstone’s miserable run continued as they were beaten at home by Slough.

That’s four defeats in their last five league games, a run that’s seen them drop from second to eighth in National South - out of the play-off places for the first time this season.

They’ve also failed to score in their last four home games in league and cup - a run that rarely looked like ending as fans started to show their frustration.

Substitute Wayne Harris scored the only goal for the visitors late in the second half.

Maidstone handed a debut to on-loan Millwall keeper Ryan Sandford as one of four changes to the side beaten at Hungerford last weekend.

Jack Barham, another of the changes, joined Hady Ghandour up top and went close in the opening minutes, rolling his shot past the far post after good work by Roarie Deacon to work the opening.

You couldn’t fault Barham’s work rate and the same could be said of Sam Corne, who was buzzing about in midfield, and Deacon down the right, while Michael Phillips looked much sharper than last week, benefiting from another start.

After a lull in play, Maidstone had a good chance midway through the half after Phillips tracked back to win possession before Corne fed Barham, whose cross was headed wide by Ghandour.

Barham went on to work Jonathan North towards the end of the half, the shot lacking any great pace but the keeper took no chances and palmed it out for a corner.

There was lots of huffing and puffing in the second half, and a penalty shout, but nothing in the way of chances as Maidstone struggled to break down the visitors.

Hakan Hayrettin's side fell behind in the 78th minute after Eitel Goueth got away down the left and crossed for substitute Harris, who headed home with his first touch.

George Fowler was denied by a super save by North from close range as Maidstone finally mustered a second-half chance, while substitute Alfie Pavey skewed wide in added time.
