It’s back-to-back defeats for Maidstone over the bank holiday weekend after losing at home to Boreham Wood.
Jack Paxman’s classy opener in first-half injury-time gave United the lead.
But Angelo Balanta levelled from a free-kick on the hour and on-loan Charlton striker Josh Umerah scored a late winner for the Wood.
Alex Finney returned in central defence as one of two changes to the side beaten at Maidenhead on Saturday.
Joe Quigley came in for Shamir Mullings while Jamar Loza was due to start in place of Andre Coker but suffered an injury in the warm-up.
Maidstone made the early running against a Wood side who grew into the first half.
The Stones’ best early chance fell around the 15-minute mark with Blair Turgott’s free-kick played back across goal by Will De Havilland for Ollie Muldoon, whose volley was held by Ellery Balcombe.
Danny Woodards’ well-timed tackle thwarted Coker while a neat move involving Muldoon, Turgott, Michee Efete and Coker ended with Stuart Lewis’ 25-yard strike clearing the bar.
Boreham Wood started to offer more in attack, with Lee Worgan holding Kieran Murtagh’s strike and producing a flying save from Tom Champion’s thumping 25-yard volley.
With half-time approaching, Efete made a superb challenge on Sorba Thomas after a clever pass split the home defence.
United then took the lead in added time, and what a strike it was as Efete got up the right and found Paxman who bent his shot into the top corner from just outside the box.
Ricky Shakes shanked a decent chance for Wood early in the second half, the ball sitting up nicely from a partially cleared corner.
They were in from Balcombe’s huge clearance soon after but De Havilland did well to stop Thomas.
Quigley saw a free header blocked from Turgott’s corner shortly before the hour mark.
And Boreham Wood levelled on the hour with Balanta curling a lovely 20-yard free-kick over the wall and into bottom corner.
It looked a soft decision but Balanta made the most of it, giving Worgan no chance.
Maidstone made a double change midway through the half, Jordan Wynter and Shamir Mullings replacing Coker and Paxman.
The Paxman substitution was booed but what it did mean was two big men up top with Mullings joining Quigley.
Mullings made a nuisance of himself as the ball dropped invitingly to Lewis, whose deflected strike flashed wide.
But Wood were putting on the pressure and it paid off five minutes from time when they went 2-1 up.
The ball dropped to Umerah off Lewis on the edge of the box and he found the bottom corner with a neat strike.
