Maidstone drew with National League leaders Wrexham at the Gallagher.
Holding midfielder Simon Walton looked like being United’s unlikely match-winner after a superb opener midway through the second half.
But a cruel deflection saw Brad Walker equalise for the Dragons three minutes after coming off the bench.
Maidstone were unchanged for the third match running as they took on a Wrexham side unbeaten in seven.
United worked hard, starting with Elliott Romain up top, and defended well in a first half that saw the Dragons largely on top.
Maidstone were on the front foot after the break, as has been the theme in recent weeks, going close to another win.
Alex Finney made two important blocks from Rekeil Pyke and cut out a dangerous cross from James Jennings as the visitors got on top early on.
Mike Fondop was a handful up front for Wrexham, much of the best work going through the big frontman who was also more than useful with his feet.
Luke Summerfield looked another talent, pinging the ball about for the visitors, with Maidstone happy to sit back and frustrate Sam Ricketts’ men.
For all their dominance Wrexham didn’t trouble Stones keeper Grant Smith, the on-loan Lincoln man saving comfortably from Pyke and watching Jennings’ curling free-kick over the bar.
And when there did appear to be danger from Summerfield’s free-kick, Wrexham defender Shaun Pearson did Maidstone a favour by inadvertently hooking the ball to safety.
Having been a virtual spectator, Wrexham keeper Rob Lainton was forced into action late in the first half, making an awkward-looking save after Walton hooked the ball goalwards from a Jack Paxman corner.
Pyke curled inches wide from a Wrexham counter just after the break.
Blair Turgott and Finney were off-target at the other end before United took the lead in the 65th minute.
A Wrexham clearance dropped to Walton outside the box and he fired a brilliant half-volley into the bottom left corner.
A last-ditch block denied Turgott Maidstone’s second after Jack Powell fed Paxman.
The Stones were on top but moments later, in the 72nd minute, Wrexham had their equaliser.
Walker’s harmless-looking shot from distance would have been easy for Smith but a big deflection off Rob Swaine saw the ball roll into the opposite corner.
Walton had another effort blocked after the ball from Paxman’s corner.
