Maidstone and Salford will meet again after their rearranged FA Trophy third-round tie ended in a draw.

Michael Phillips gave United a first-half lead but Mani Dieseruvwe’s leveller forced a replay next Tuesday.

The Stones played well and deserved to get the job done on the night, but Salford held on for a replay.

Maidstone, handing debuts to keeper Dion-Curtis Henry and defenders Aron Davies and Shaun Donnellan, more than held their own in the pouring rain at Moor Lane.

They were organised and committed all over the park, player-coach Simon Walton catching the eye winning his headers and breaking up play in front of the back three.

Jack Powell also looked to be enjoying himself as a makeshift striker, thrashing a ball across the face of goal in the early stages that just needed a touch.

An attempted clearance from Henry gave the Ammies their first opening but Kieran Glynn missed the open goal from 30 yards.

Davies’ strong challenge on the line denied Adam Rooney before Maidstone took the lead in the 22nd minute.

Jack Paxman was the provider, playing in Phillips who ran through and coolly beat Max Crocombe in a one-on-one.

Dan Wishart fired wide after a nice run down the left from a Powell pass but Maidstone were pegged back in the 35th minute.

It was a strange equaliser with Henry seemingly caught out by Denis Politic’s cross at the near post, leaving Mani Dieseruvwe a tap-in.

Maidstone had a big chance to regain the lead when Ollie Muldoon’s corner reached the unmarked Will De Havilland at the back post but the Stones captain’s header went over.

De Havilland saw another header hacked off the line in first-half injury time, this time from a Paxman corner.

Walton had a fierce shot blocked and Phillips was denied at the start of the second half while Henry held Glynn’s volley after a swift break down the left by the hosts as the rain eased.

Maidstone, with Paxman a growing influence, put together a lovely spell of possession moving into the last 20 minutes, sharp passing taking play from one side to the other before Phillips’ knockdown was fired over by Powell.

The Stones were looking the stronger side, playing on the front foot and forcing a number of corners.

Aryan Tajbakhsh’s cross-cum-shot had Crocombe scrambling and then Davies beat the keeper to another Tajbakhsh ball but headed over.

Devante Rodney had a glorious opportunity for Salford in added time but missed the target.
