Maidstone striker Jake Robinson has rejoined Billericay for an undisclosed fee after only three months at the Gallagher Stadium.
The deal sees Robinson reunited with former Stones boss Harry Wheeler, the man who brought him to United in December before being sacked at Christmas.
The 32-year-old fired Billericay to the Bostik Premier title last season, scoring 57 goals, and followed that up with 16 in National South.
That convinced United to pay a fee for the former Brighton forward but goals were harder to come by in the National League, scoring once in 11 appearances.
Stones chief executive Bill Williams said: “Jake was top of Harry’s shopping list when he was here and it was no surprise to me that he came in for him having returned to Billericay.
“Unfortunately, because he was cup-tied in the FA Trophy, he didn’t get the run of games he and us would have liked.
“When the offer came in, it was clearly one that appealed to him and was acceptable to us, so we thank him for his efforts and wish him well – especially with the arrival of his first child in the not too distant future.”
It was the chance to work with Wheeler that brought Robinson to the Gallagher in the first place.
He said at the time: “I kept an eye on Maidstone’s results because I considered Harry a good friend and a manager I worked well with.
“I always assumed one day there may be a chance to work together again.
“I didn’t expect it be quite so soon, having signed a new two-year contract at Billericay just a month ago, so it did come as a bit of a surprise.”
The respect was mutual with Wheeler saying: “Jake is somebody I have wanted since I’ve been here and we have worked relentlessly to get him.
“There was a lot of interest in him, so to get this transfer over the line is a very positive move for the club.
“He is a natural goalscorer with over 100 goals in two and a half years. He has 16 already this season, he is a pure finisher and he will add a lot to this group.”
