James Rogers is pushing for his fourth start in a row when Maidstone meet Wealdstone at the Gallagher Stadium on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
Rogers has been back to his old self in central midfield after falling out of favour in the opening weeks of the National League South campaign.
A month at Folkestone helped last season’s player-of-the-year rediscover his touch and he’s looked the part since getting back in the Maidstone team.
He was picked over Jack Paxman for the midfield battle at his former club Dartford on Saturday but whether he’ll get the nod for Wealdstone remains to be seen, with boss Jay Saunders ready to make changes.
Rogers was dropped after Stones’ defeat by Ebbsfleet in August and spent several weeks on the bench before his loan move to Folkestone.
He said: "Jay thought I was off the pace a little bit. Obviously I disagreed with him but it was one of them. I feel sharp now.
"I had a month at Folkestone, got my fitness back, scored at Concord and I feel much better now. I’d love to stay in the team.
"We’ve got Wealdstone at home on Tuesday which is another big game, segregated, there’s going to be a big crowd, so it would be nice to play but we’ll wait and see.”
United remain unbeaten in the league since the end of August but Saunders wants an improvement on performances against Concord and Dartford, even though they collected four points from those games.
Paxman is in Saunders’ thoughts while the boss must also decide whether to start Alex Flisher so soon after completing 90 minutes for the first time this season at Princes Park.
Saunders, whose side are fourth in the table, said: “The players set their standards, they know we’ve not been good enough the last couple of games.
“There’s things we need to work on, there’s things I need to look at.
“There’ll be changes again Tuesday. I think it’ll be difficult for the likes of Flish to play two games but he’ll get there fitness-wise.
“Jack Paxman comes back into consideration. I felt the Dartford game would suit Joe Healy and James Rogers more.
“I knew what it was going to be like in midfield - a bit of a battle - and I felt it would suit them better.”
Alex Osborn is struggling with a hamstring injury and looks set to miss out. His two-month loan from Ebbsfleet is up after Saturday’s trip to Basingstoke.
