England star Alessia Russo went the extra mile to ensure one of her young supporters was recognised.
Russo spotted Grace Storey and her youngster sister Ruby at the Euros wearing their Bearsted kits, having gone there straight from training. It’s the same club the Manchester United forward started her career at.
She wanted to give Grace a gift but as she had already swapped her shirt with another player and didn’t have anything to give the girls she made contact with the club through her brother, Gio, who plays for the men’s first team.
Grace’s under-11 side were invited to be mascots for a men’s first-team match and while there the young footballer was presented with a signed photo and a signed pair of Russo’s boots with the message, ‘To Grace, keep smashing it and I’ll see you on the pitch, love Alessia’.
Under-11 coach Steve Smith said: “All of Grace’s team-mates and siblings were there to share the day with her as well as her parents, Terry and Carly, plus Grace’s younger sisters Ruby and Rose and older brother George.”
Grace has been with the Maidstone Invicta Primary A League under-11 Bearsted squad for the past season and her younger sister Ruby plays for the under-9 Hornets.
Last year the girls’ under-11s won the MIPL Cup, beating Maidstone 3-2 in the final, as well as winning two summer tournaments.
Smith added: “Grace is an excellent footballer. She also trains with Chelsea. The whole team and their parents were there to witness Grace receiving the very generous gift.”
