Jay Saunders is considering bolstering his attacking options following an injury to Yemi Odubade.
The Maidstone manager has already made an offer for one frontman but has admitted that other clubs are interested.
With a central defender also on Saunders’ agenda, he is playing a waiting game as players and clubs consider their options carefully during a busy month.
Football League clubs only have until January 31 to do their transfer business and that has a knock-on effect to those lower down.
Saunders said: “Players want to try and stay in the Football League if they can and some of the National League players want to be full-time.
“We are speaking to players and agents and they just want to hold out to see what happens over the next couple of weeks.
“It is a difficult one because, in an ideal world, we would get one in straight away but we can’t bring them in for the sake of it.”
Odubade is almost certain to miss Maidstone’s home game with Torquay on Saturday after picking up a foot injury.
“Hopefully, he can do a bit of light training the following week,” added Saunders.
“With Yemi getting injured, maybe that leaves us a little light up front. It is an area where we would be looking again.
“There are some good players being offered but they have to be right and come and fit in with what we are trying to do and where we need them to play. That’s where it becomes difficult.
“It is whether there is something there where we think it will make a difference to us.
“We have been in talks with one lad for a few weeks but we’ve not been able to come to an agreement. He has been sorting things out with his club but there is quite a lot of interest in him and we have to see how that one goes.”
