Maidstone’s young guns are showing no fear in the National League South promotion race.
Second-placed Stones return to action after a week off when Gosport visit the Gallagher on Saturday (3pm).
Boro have climbed into the play-offs after three wins in a row and are just a point behind Jay Saunders’ side.
It’s a big game in the battle for a play-off place – not that United’s youngsters are feeling any pressure.
Manager Saunders said: “We’re a young side and it’s Catch 22 with young players.
“They make mistakes and when I look back at the two goals we conceded against Concord, youth may have played a part.
“On the flip side, they don’t really have any fear. They just go into games looking forward to it. Gosport is a big game but they won’t be worried about playing them.”
Striker Jay May and Adam Birchall missed Tuesday night training through illness but should be in contention, while fellow frontman Alex Akrofi has recovered from the ankle injury that saw him substituted in the 2-2 draw against Concord a fortnight ago.
United will be playing only their second game in five weeks after a series of postponements and having looked rusty against Concord, Saunders hopes lessons have been learnt.
He said: “It’s never ideal when you have games off – any manager will tell you that – but we’ve got to deal with it. I hope we get a better reaction than we did against Concord."
