Seth Twumasi has signed a new contract at Maidstone.
Stones boss Jay Saunders feared he may lose the former Chelsea right-back but was pleasantly surprised when he held talks.
Saunders said: "I thought we might lose Seth because he lives in Peterborough and financially I wasn't sure it would work for him travelling in for training three mornings a week but he was really easy to deal with.
"He was desperate to stay, he said he loves it here and didn't want to go to another club. He wants to help the club kick on."
Twumasi, a free agent after leaving Newport, initially joined Maidstone for a one-off appearance in the Kent Senior Cup last September.
But he ended up staying for the season, rejecting League 2 Cheltenham in the January transfer window, and proving an important player as United stayed in the National League.
Saunders said: "Seth's a proper professional, he's always been a pro and one thing I didn't want to do was rip the core out of the side that went on that great run, so I'm pleased to keep him.
"He's got good experience, he knows the level and is a calm head.
"He's a great lad to have around the younger ones and it's not like he's over the hill because he's only 26 or 27."
