Kent Invicta’s teenage captain voted National Volleyball League Division 3 South East’s Most Valuable Player

Mickey Hawney of Kent Invicta has been voted National Volleyball League Division 3 South East’s Most Valuable Player this season.

The award - voted for after each game by each opposing team - will go alongside the league title in the 19-year-old’s trophy cabinet.

Hawney, who captains Invicta, with bases in Maidstone and Canterbury, became the first player in the history of the club to sign a professional contract to play for them.

He has already represented England at under-19 level and been training with the England under-22 side, alongside Kent team-mate Stuart Perry.

Hawney said: “I’m truly honoured to win this award and it means so much.

"But this wouldn't have been possible without the greatest of team-mates around me, supporting and pushing me this season. I'm excited for what's to come."

Hawney will be hoping to lead Kent Invicta to successive promotions, as the team chase the Division 2 title next season in their quest to reach the Super League.
