YOUNG Maidstone United defender Chris Smalling has been at Middlesbrough having trials and dreaming of being a Premier League footballer.

The product of Maidstone United’s youth development programme and England under-18 international central defender has found himself in demand since breaking into the squad and is also wanted by Fulham.

He has already had trials with Charlton, who have asked him back.
