Sol Campbell among the favourites to be new Maidstone United manager

Sol Campbell is among the favourites for the Maidstone manager's job - but who do you think should succeed Jay Saunders?

Campbell is 12/1 with BetVictor to take over at the Gallagher Stadium and land his first job in management.

Caretaker boss Steve Watt is the 4/5 favourite, followed by ex-Gillingham manager Adrian Pennock at 2/1.

Former Wimbledon chief Joe Kinnear is another surprise name on the list, priced 20/1, while Dover boss Chris Kinnear is 25/1 as speculation over his Crabble future mounts.

We take a look at a few of the bookies' names and throw in a couple of our own in our KentOnline poll. Vote for your favourite at the bottom of the page.

STEVE WATT (4/5)

Former Stones captain returned to Maidstone this summer as Jay Saunders' assistant.

A popular figure who knows the club like the back of his hand, Watt was named caretaker boss after Saunders left.

Lack of managerial experience could count against him but with a wise old head in Craig Brewster alongside him, there's no reason why Watt couldn't make the job work.

ADRIAN PENNOCK (2/1)

Looking for a route back into football after leaving Barrow at the end of last season.

Sacked after a tough spell at Gillingham early last season, he quickly accepted the Barrow job and kept them in the National League.

Previously finished runners-up in this division with a big budget at Forest Green.

Gills links may not appeal to Stones fans.

SOL CAMPBELL (12/1)

The former Spurs and Arsenal defender declared he had "one of the greatest minds in football" after missing out on the Oxford job in February.

Yet to be tested in management but he'd certainly raise the club's media profile in the event of his unlikely appointment.

GARRY HILL (16/1)

The former Woking manager is said to be interested in the job.

The 58-year-old came to prominence at Dagenham & Redbridge, winning promotion to the Conference in his first season.

Made headlines on the back of FA Cup exploits, taking Charlton to a third-round replay.

JOE KINNEAR (20/1)

Worked wonders with Wimbledon in the 1990s, including a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League, not to mention FA Cup and League Cup semi-final appearances.

The 71-year-old's last job in management was at Newcastle a decade ago.

He stabilised the Magpies before heart problems forced him to stand down but, even now, his short reign is best remembered for a spectacular press conference in which he ripped into a couple of national journalists.

CHRIS KINNEAR (25/1)

Could fancy a new challenge as speculation mounts over his future at Dover following a difficult start to the season.

He's a former Stones player who knows chief executive Bill Williams well.

Has criticised 3G pitches in the past but few managers in non-league can match Kinnear's record.

His CV includes three promotions to the Conference, two at Dover and one at Margate, and four straight top-eight finishes with the Whites at this level.

NEIL SMITH (25/1)

Difficult to see the former Gillingham midfielder leaving Bromley but Smith has established the Ravens in the National League over the past couple of years and led them to the FA Trophy final at Wembley.

PETER TAYLOR (-)

Doesn't feature in the bookmakers' odds but Taylor almost joined Maidstone's coaching staff last season.

Another Stones old boy who played under Bill Williams, Taylor has five Football League promotions on a glittering CV, achieved with Gillingham, Brighton, Hull (2) and Wycombe.

Currently working at cash-strapped Dagenham but maybe the veteran boss would fancy taking the job at his old club.

STEVE McKIMM (-)

Has led Tonbridge Angels to the top of the Bostik Premier, conceding only once in six games.

McKimm is a superb man-manager who gets every last drop out of the players at his disposal.

Has the credentials to manage higher but is very happy at Longmead and highly unlikely to move to Maidstone.
