Maidstone are approaching must-win territory when they meet FC Halifax at the Gallagher tonight.

The Stones are 10 points from safety in the National League, with 13 games remaining, after losing at Bromley on Saturday.

They're up against a Halifax side who have gone seven-and-a-half hours without a goal, drawing six of their past seven league games.

The Shaymen are only a couple of points above the bottom four but their recent record suggests they'll be stubborn opponents.

Stones boss John Still said: "They’re a strong side, they handle themselves well.

"They’ll be tough but we’re in a position where whoever we play we know it’s going to be tough.

"Fylde was tough and even Salford, albeit they didn’t play their full team in the Trophy, it was tough.

"But do you know what, they’re the games you should relish because it’s a challenge and we need challenges to try and bring these people out of their shells a little bit."

Some managers claim not to look at the table but Still isn't one of them.

He said: "Be it for promotion or relegation - it's normally been the other end - you do look at the table.

"I don’t get excited about it and I don’t look at games and go ‘if we can get three points there’, because football’s not like that.

"All I try and do is get my team playing consistently and if they’re playing consistently we can’t do a lot else, but that’s what we need to do.

“We’ve had two or three decent games and there were parts of the Bromley game that didn’t disappoint me because we defended really well when I thought there was a chance of us being overrun."
